U.S.-El Salvador Gold Cup Match A Sellout After Late Surge In Sales

Today's U.S.-El Salvador CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinal match at M&T Bank Stadium will be "played before a sellout crowd in excess of 71,000." This "seems a bit stunning" given that only 26,000 tickets were sold as of Tuesday morning. The "late surge was attributed more to the rabid fan base of El Salvador than to the performance of the American team" (Baltimore SUN, 7/20). U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann and his players are "aware that many in the sellout crowd" will be rooting for the opposition (Baltimore SUN, 7/21).
