Violence Mars "El Super Clasico" Exhibition Match In Las Vegas

The "El Super Clasico" exhibition match between Liga MX clubs Club America and Chivas de Guadalajara last Wednesday at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas featured "rowdy fans and massive brawls," which has some "worrying that major clubs may avoid the area in the future." ESPN Deportes Las Vegas Program Dir Alvaro Puentes said, "This was a really, really bad day for soccer in Las Vegas" (LAS VEGAS SUN, 7/5). The announced attendance for the match was 14,600 (THE DAILY).

Meanwhile, the Club America-Liga MX club Tijuana Xolos exhibition last night at Petco Park, dubbed the San Diego Clasico, saw a "festive atmosphere" among the 28,759 fans in attendance. The field for the match was "95 yards from goal to goal" (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 7/7).

Elsewhere, the Messi & Friends vs. the Rest of the World exhibition at Soldier Field yesterday, organized by La Liga club Barcelona F Lionel Messi, was played "in front of an estimated 25,000 fans" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 7/7).
