Flames' King Says Arena Will Be Ready For '13-14 Despite Flooding

Flames President & CEO Ken King yesterday said that he is "convinced hockey will be played" at the Scotiabank Saddledome next season, despite damage to the arena caused by massive flooding in Calgary this weekend. King: "We’re going to be ready for the opening of the season." He added reports of floodwaters rising to the arena's eighth or ninth row of seating "are absolutely true." The Saddledome's "Zambonis, the video control room, archived footage of the team, most memorabilia, the dressing rooms, kitchens and the media lounge are all destroyed" (CALGARY SUN, 6/23).

Meanwhile, Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi insisted that the July 5-14 Calgary Stampede rodeo will go on, but said the event "may not look the same as last year" (LATIMES.com, 6/22).
