NBC's McGuire Had Tumor Removed, Will Return For Olympics

NBC Sports hockey analyst Pierre McGuire has been "diagnosed with prostate cancer," it was announced last night prior to NBCSN's coverage of Wild-Blackhawks. Doctors "determined McGuire has stage 1 cancer, and no chemotherapy is currently planned." Following a Jan. 4 surgery, he "expects to return to NBC next month" for the Pyeongchang Games. McGuire indicated that one reason he "pushed to have the surgery quickly was to give him the opportunity to be ready for the Olympics." This comes five months after NBC's Ed Olczyk was diagnosed with colon cancer (USATODAY.com, 1/10).
