Lakers Retire Kobe Bryant's Two Jerseys In Star-Studded Ceremony

The Lakers last night "retired the two numbers" -- 8 and 24 -- Kobe Bryant wore "over the course of his 20 years with the organization." Bryant was "flanked by a row" of Basketball HOFers as he was "once again showered with chants and cheers" at Staples Center. Bryant "became the 10th Laker to have his jersey retired, but the first player in major professional sports to have two numbers retired by the same organization." An emotional Lakers President Jeanie Buss "thanked Bryant for 'staying loyal to the purple and gold and remaining a Laker for life when it might have been easier for you to leave.'" Attendees included Shaquille O'Neal, Jerry West, Allen Iverson, Bill Russell and actor Jack Nicholson (ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER, 12/19).
