The Padres gave Exec VP & GM A.J. Preller a "three-year contract extension through" the '22 season. Preller's original contract, signed when he was hired on Aug. 6, 2014, was to have run through '19 (AP, 12/3).

Canadian Tire and Upper Deck today launch a new 160-card Team Canada hockey heroes collectible trading card set available exclusively at retail locations throughout Canada. The new set will be sold in limited five-card foil packs for C$1.99 each with any in-store purchase through Dec. 28 (Canadian Tire).

About 4,000 people yesterday attended the Earthquakes’ Winterfest at Avaya Stadium, which "morphed into a winter wonderland filled with snow, a large inflatable snow globe, ice sculpture, crafts and other holiday activities" (San Jose MERCURY NEWS, 12/4).
