Group Hangs "Racism Is As American As Baseball" Sign At Fenway

During last night's A's-Red Sox game, a sign was unfurled from the front row of Fenway Park's Monster Seats that read, "Racism is as American as baseball." The sign "remained visible for approximately two minutes before security personnel removed both the sign and four people" from the ballpark. Red Sox President & CEO Sam Kennedy said that the group "told Fenway security guards they 'felt connected to the Black Lives Matter movement.'" Kennedy: "Clearly they wanted to make a statement." This is the "latest incident in a year that has seen Fenway Park thrust into the middle of an ongoing national dialogue about race relations" (BOSTON GLOBE, 9/14).

The BOSTON HERALD highlights the story on its front page: "Monster Flap."

NFL Quickens Pace Of Ezekiel Elliott Proceedings With Court Filing

The NFL is "pushing the tempo" in the Ezekiel Elliott suspension case and has asked U.S. District Judge Amos Mazzant to "issue a ruling by the end of the day" today. The league last night filed its final response in its "motion for an emergency stay of the injunction that is allowing Elliott to remain on the field." The NFL had until 5:00pm ET tomorrow to do so, but "waited only hours" after the Cowboys RB and the NFLPA "filed their response to the motion the league first filed Monday." The NFL said that if there is no decision by today, it will "seek a stay of the injunction" from the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals tomorrow morning (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 9/14).

The DALLAS MORNING NEWS goes with the header, "How The Ezekiel Elliott Case Is A Win For The NFL, No Matter The Outcome In Court." The WASHINGTON TIMES goes with, "Neither Elliott Nor Accuser Get Fair Shake From Arbitrary NFL."

Marlins Move Brewers Series To Milwaukee In Wake Of Storm

The Marlins are "moving their weekend home series with the Brewers to Miller Park" in the wake of Hurricane Irma. Marlins President David Samson in a statement said, "Marlins Park stood ready to host the games, but we all agreed that burdening public service resources was not the proper course of action." Samson said that Marlins Park is "structurally sound." He added, "The ballpark is 100 percent and could have hosted the game tonight." The Marlins "still intend to host a home series at Marlins Park that starts Monday" against the Mets (MIAMI HERALD, 9/14).

The Brewers, "due to staffing limitations, are limiting ticket sales to approximately 10,000 for Friday’s game and approximately 23,000 for Saturday and Sunday." Normal capacity at Miller Park is 41,900 (South Florida SUN-SENTINEL, 9/14).

Las Vegas Body Could Extend Time Frame For Raiders Stadium Deal

The Las Vegas Stadium Authority today will "consider extending the time to write a development agreement" with the Raiders to build the team's 65,000-seat domed stadium. The extension, which "isn't expected to delay the start of construction" on the $1.9B project, puts the Raiders "on the hook for paying for preliminary site work if the stadium deal stumbles." An MOU to be introduced today "would move the deadline to complete the development agreement to February from Oct. 17" (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 9/13).

Today, she’s on the cover of Sports Illustrated holding a U.S. Open trophy.” Kimmel: “I always like to see an American win.” Stephens said facing her close friend Madison Keys in the final was “sucky, but we both made a lot of money, so I don’t think it was that bad.” Stephens said she went to the offices of SI to choose the cover photo: “I was like, ‘Don’t use this one, don’t use that one.’” Kimmel asked, “Do you think they listened?” Stephens: “They definitely listened. That's the one I picked.” Stephens said she did not like the other photos because “they just weren't cute,” as many of them showed “aggressive looks on my face, and like crotch open and boob sweat. It just wasn't the vibe.” Kimmel: “You treated it like it was your Instagram selfie” (“Jimmy Kimmel Live,” ABC, 9/13).

Laugh Track: L.A. Story

ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel: “Welcome to Los Angeles, California, which as of today is the official home of the Summer Olympics in 2028. … President Kid Rock himself will be here for the Opening Ceremonies. The U.S. delegation originally wanted to have the Olympics in Boston and that seemed to be the plan, until they realized they had very little local support. People in Boston didn't want them. But here they did a poll and they found that 83% of L.A. residents approve of hosting the Olympics. Although it's important to keep in mind 83% of L.A. residents also approve of gluten-free pizza, so we really can't be trusted. Get ready, in just 11 short years we can look forward to seeing the greatest athletes in the world stuck next to us on the 405” (“Jimmy Kimmel Live,” ABC, 9/13).

Last night’s edition of NBC’s “The Tonight Show” aired a segment called “Tonight Show Screen Grabs” which featured “weird, funny things” viewers found on the Internet and sent into the show. NBC’s Jimmy Fallon said a viewer was watching a Triple-A Int'l League Columbus Clippers-Toledo Mud Hens game and took a screen shot of Clippers LF Richie Shaffer, which read, “LAST AT BAT: FELL OFF A CLIFF.” Fallon: “You just hate when that happens. They should rebuild that stadium. It really is too close to the edge” (“The Tonight Show,” NBC, 9/13).
