Lions Confirm Bid To Host NFL Draft At Ford Field In '20 Or '21

Lions President Ron Wood confirmed the team has "submitted an initial proposal to host the league's annual draft weekend" in '20 or '21, and he noted that Detroit is "one of two dozen cities applying to host future drafts." Wood said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell "knows we're interested in having both (the draft and Super Bowl) here." Wood: "There are a lot of other cities, I'm sure, that are interested, but we're going to give it our best shot. I think the stadium is ready to host a big event like that, and hopefully we'll get some consideration" (DETROIT NEWS, 8/23).

The Lions are bidding on a Super Bowl as well, even though those games "typically don't go to cold-weather teams without a new stadium." But the team hopes the $100M it has spent on Ford Field upgrades "will help their chances" (MLIVE.com, 8/22).
