“We have a better chance of peace in the Middle East that we do to have between the NFL and the NFLPA” -- ESPN’s Adam Schefter (“NFL Live,” ESPN2, 8/21).

"There is no doubt about it: This will be the greatest opening game of all time in college football" -- Atlanta Sports Council President Gary Stokan, on the Sept. 2 Alabama-Florida State tilt at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The game is the "first opener matching teams ranked in the preseason top three" (ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION, 8/22). 

"Number two on my list after the Opera House was to get close to a kangaroo" -- Stanford football coach David Shaw, on his to-do list as the team prepares to play Rice Saturday night in Sydney (SMH.com.au, 8/22).
