Final Jeopardy!

Last night’s “Final Jeopardy!” category was “Word Origins.”

Laugh Track....

Comedy Central’s Trevor Noah discussed the recent events in Charlottesville, Va., and the “alt-right’s” belief that Caucasian people are intellectually superior to other races. Noah said, “Let's talk about this idea that white people are biologically superior for a second. Now don’t get me wrong, whites people have been doing very well for themselves for the past few hundred years. I mean they invented light bulbs, airplanes, cured polio, went to the moon, won the Grammy for Best Rap Album.” An image of rapper Macklemore was shown on-screen holding two Grammy awards. More Noah: “It's been a solid run for white people, I cannot lie. But this stuff goes in cycles. At one point, Mesopotamia was killing it. But then the Egyptians hit back with the pyramids. It’s like white people had Larry Bird, but then Michael Jordan came out, and Shaq, and then Kevin Garnett and Iverson and LeBron. Basically, white people had Larry Bird, is what I’m saying” (“The Daily Show,” Comedy Central, 8/21).
