Red Sox Honor Broadcaster Jerry Remy With Ceremony, Gifts

NESN's Jerry Remy yesterday made his "first visit to Fenway Park since lung surgery in early June," and he took part in a pregame ceremony to "celebrate his 30 years as a broadcaster." The ceremony began "less than 15 minutes before first pitch" of the Yankees-Red Sox game, so that "almost all of the 36,911 fans on hand could give Remy a standing ovation." The Red Sox presented him with a "Waterford crystal vase, a new watch, a pair of Fenway Park seats ... and a gigantic new television." Remy this week begins chemotherapy as "part of his fifth battle with cancer" (BOSTON HERALD, 8/21).
