Solheim Cup Set To Start, With Record Attendance Expected In Iowa

The Solheim Cup gets under way today at Des Moines Golf & Country Club, and the three days of women's golf will be the "biggest international athletic event ever held in Iowa." More than 120,000 tickets have been sold, a "record for any Solheim Cup" (DESMOINESREGISTER.com, 8/16).

Golfer Lexi Thompson has some "sweet USA-themed Puma golf shoes" for the tourney. She will wear "three sets of uniquely designed Pumas" and has "matching red, white and blue gloves" (GOLFWEEK.com, 8/16). Michelle Wie had some "custom Nike kicks covered in Swarovski crystals" during a Tuesday presser, but those "won’t be the ones she wears in competition." Her "official shoes will have bling, just not as much." Wie said that Nike "added the sparkle to reflect the actual Solheim Cup" (GOLFWEEK.com, 8/15).
