Mets Promote Tebow To Team-Owned Club In Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Tim Tebow is expected to be in the Single-A Florida State League St. Lucie Mets' starting lineup for tomorrow night's home game, and he is "sure to be a hit at every Florida stop he makes" after being promoted from the Single-A South Atlantic League Columbia Fireflies. The St. Lucie Mets through 36 home games are averaging 1,722 fans, and that figure could "double for Tuesday's game." In every SAL town where Tebow played, "people filled the stands," and the Fireflies averaged crowds of 5,230 in 38 home games (TCPALM.com, 6/25).

Had Tebow stayed in Columbia, he could have generated an estimated $3.1M in "additional revenue over 70 road games," but now the "cash cow is moving" to Florida. While the MLB Mets do not wholly own the Fireflies, they "do own the St. Lucie Mets, so the Tebow Effect will go right into their coffers" (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 6/26).
