Funding Proposal For Quicken Loans Arena Renovation Draws Criticism

A deal to invest public money in the $140M renovation of Quicken Loans Arena "continued to draw fire" last night in a Cleveland City Council meeting. The deal "would ensure the Cavaliers will remain at the arena" through '34, a seven-year extension of their current lease. Opposition groups "point to deals struck over public funding of sports facilities elsewhere and argue that those cities" got "more of a financial commitment" from team ownership. The City Council will have "at least one more hearing, likely April 10, before a final vote" (CRAINSCLEVELAND.com, 4/4).
