Laugh Track: Just A Moment

The intro to CBS’ “Late Show” last night featured host Stephen Colbert and guest Jason Sudeikis singing a parody of CBS’ NCAA Tournament theme song, “One Shining Moment.” The video announcer began by saying, “Earlier tonight, CBS celebrated the highlights of the NCAA championship with their annual ‘One Shining Moment’ montage. But we here at the ‘Late Show’ know there were other moments that weren’t celebrated so we’d like to celebrate them now.”

Colbert, a South Carolina native, began his "Late Show" monologue by congratulating the South Carolina women's basketball "Gamecock team" for winning the NCAA title, "or as I hope no one calls them, the Lady Cocks, because I googled that and those were not basketball players" (“Late Show,” CBS, 4/3).

TNT’s Shaquille O’Neal appeared on NBC’s “The Tonight Show” last night and engaged host Jimmy Fallon in a lip-sync battle. O’Neal told Fallon, “I’ve been waiting to do this battle with you for years.” O’Neal noted he has “broken about 10 backboards” while dunking. O’Neal: “One time, the shot clock fell and hit me in the head, but since it was in the arena, I had to play it off like it didn’t hurt. But when I got back to the locker room I was like, ‘Oh, I need some Icy Hot or something.’” O’Neal said being honored by the Lakers with a statue outside of the Staples Center was a “humbling moment for me, because I felt there was a couple more Lakers that were well-deserving of a statue” (“The Tonight Show,” NBC, 4/4).

ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel said of last night's NCAA title game, “Gonzaga university was founded in 1887. This is interesting. It was founded as a bet to see if students would want a diploma from a school that sounded like it was named after a monkey disease. ... I went to see a Spring Training game in Arizona last weekend. The Cubs played the Indians. The Cubs have a beautiful spring training facility in Mesa, Arizona. It really is amazing, and then after the game – this is the real reason I went – I went into the Cubs' locker room with Rick Sutcliffe, Theo Epstein the general manager, Anthony Rizzo, and we all just took a long shower together, and it was so nice. ... President Trump broke with baseball tradition, declining an invitation from the Washington Nationals to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. He didn't want to throw the first pitch, he wanted to throw the last pitch. First pitches are for losers."

Actor Chris Evans appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” last night and expressed his “love” for the Patriots and QB Tom Brady. Kimmel: “Who do you love more, the Patriots or Tom Brady?” Evans: “That’s tough.” Kimmel replied, “Because the Patriots in and of themselves aren’t as handsome as Tom Brady.” Evans: “Few are.” Evans said he “loves the Patriots like any sports entity, but Tom is a special man.” Evans attended the Super Bowl and went to the post-game party, but he has “yet to meet” Brady. Evans: “He might have made an appearance (at the party), but he’s Tom Brady, he had to go rule the world. But I didn’t meet Tom and I’m not sure if I want to. ... I just want to let him be the thing that I imagine he is.” Kimmel: “You’re positively glowing” (“Jimmy Kimmel Live,” ABC, 4/4).
