Laugh Track: Vegas, Baby!

Raiders QB Derek Carr introduced a performance by Kelsea Ballerini on the “Academy of Country Music Awards,” which aired last night on CBS from Las Vegas. Carr was introduced by the announcer with, “Now soon to be Las Vegas’ first NFL quarterback.” Carr: “Let me shout-out to our friends back home in Oakland and I’m excited to meet our new friends here in Las Vegas.” NASCAR drivers Bubba Wallace and Elliott Sadler together presented the ACM award for “Video of the Year.” Patriots WR Julian Edelman and Miss America Savvy Shields presented the ACM for “Female Vocalist of the Year” (“Academy of Country Music Awards,” CBS, 4/2).

Fox’ “The Simpsons” began with Homer’s nuclear plant softball team, Springfield Nuclear, playing against Indian Point Nuclear, which is about 50 miles from N.Y. The announcer opens the show by saying, “Intramural softball, where even the most overweight tubbo can pretend to be an athlete.” Springfield player Lenny Leonard said, “Those Indian Point Nuclear jerks, they think they're so great because their fallout radius includes Manhattan.” One of the Indian Point players replies, “How many Mets games can you postpone? Fugetaboutit!” The game even featured a Vin Scully-sounding announcer with a sign behind him which read, “Enjoy your last game, Vin Scully impersonator” (“The Simpsons,” Fox, 4/2).
