Gracenote's New Single-Source Database Blends Sports, Video, Music

Gracenote, which specializes in music video recognition and data products, today is debuting a new connected database that blends information from across sports, video and music genres. California-based Gracenote will now offer a single-source data product to clients including cable and satellite distributors, content companies and consumer electronics/technology companies. A search for a prominent athlete such as Cavaliers F LeBron James will yield not only stats and game schedules, but also game highlights, TV talk show appearances and movie cameos.

The new product is several years in the making, but the launch represents one of the first big moves for Gracenote since former owner Tribune Media sold it to Nielsen late last year for $560M. “This is the vision that Nielsen bought, to create a global multi-vertical database,” said Gracenote Chief Product Officer Rich Cusick. Gracenote’s continued development of sports data products follows its '15 purchases of Infostrada and SportsDirect.
