Mike Ilitch's Family Announces Public Visitation; More Tributes Planned

The Ilitch family announced that public visitation for the late Mike Ilitch has been scheduled for Wednesday from noon-8:00pm ET at the Fox Theatre Grand Lobby in Detroit. The family in a statement said beginning today at 1:00pm, "community members are invited to share memories or write messages of condolence on a temporary, public memorial site to be organized outside of Comerica Park." Additional "memorial opportunities and recognition events" will be held at Joe Louis Arena, the Lakeland Complex and the Little Caesars Arena site (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 2/13).

PrimeSport Brings On Tim Brosnan To Help Push Ticketing, Hospitality

Atlanta-based PrimeSport has named former MLB Exec VP/Business Tim Brosnan Exec Chair and acting CEO as the agency seeks more "credibility in the increasingly competitive VIP ticketing, travel and hospitality business.” Brosnan will be based in N.Y. and "head a company that has 200 employees across five U.S. offices." The move means that Brosnan and PrimeSport will "compete head to head" with former NHL COO John Collins, who has been CEO of On Location Experiences since November '15 (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 2/13 issue).

ESPN Ramps Up Coverage As UConn Women Shoot For 100 Straight

UConn women's basketball will go for its 100th straight win tonight at home against South Carolina, and ESPN has planned a "day long airing of prominent UConn games during the streak" on ESPNU and ESPN Classic. Tonight's game airs on ESPN2 at 9:00pm ET, and the net has "other coverage planned during the day," including the Big Monday crew broadcasting from Gampel Pavilion (NEW HAVEN REGISTER, 2/13). ESPN will have a "reporter on the ground in Storrs" throughout the day, "plus a Rebecca Lobo spot on ESPN Radio several hours before the game" (AWFULANNOUNCING.com, 2/10).

UConn coach Geno Auriemma appeared on “GMA” this morning and said, “Everybody’s making a big deal over it tonight because of the number 100, but tomorrow morning we're going to wake up and I don't think we're going to feel that much different.” He added, “Whether we win or lose tonight, it's an important day because of the attention that's being focused on the game of women's basketball” (“GMA,” ABC, 2/13).

Santa Cruz Warriors Draw Record D-League Crowd At Oracle Arena

The Santa Cruz Warriors last night established a new NBA D-League single-game attendance record, with a crowd of 17,497 at Oracle Arena for the game against the Oklahoma City Blue. This marked the first time the D-League club had played at Oracle, the home arena of its NBA affiliate. The previous record was set in December, with 15,011 fans attending the Grand Rapids Drive-Raptors 905 contest at Air Canada Centre (Warriors).

Fed Cup Quarterfinal Draws Near-Capacity Crowd At Maui Venue

The U.S. beat Germany in the Fed Cup quarterfinals over the weekend, and attendance was "just under the 2,400 capacity" both Saturday and Sunday at Royal Lahaina Tennis Ranch in Maui, for a total of 4,629. With a "much larger venue and infra-structure needed for semis," USTA Hawaii Pacific Section Exec Dir Ron Romano said that Hawaii "will probably not be able to make a bid" (HONOLULU STAR-ADVERTISER, 2/13).

Atlanta United Unveils Alternate Jerseys In MLS Preseason Debut

A crowd of more than 12,400 attended MLS expansion club Atlanta United's preseason opener on Saturday, a 4-0 win over fourth-tier NPSL club Chattanooga FC at Finley Stadium in Tennessee. Atlanta United unveiled its secondary jersey at halftime, and the players "switched from the home jersey to the alternate" at the break (ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION, 2/12).

Meanwhile, an estimated 5,000 fans were on hand for Saturday's Earthquakes-Galaxy exhibition at Cashman Field, a crowd that was "noticeably smaller than last year's attendance of 7,500" at the Las Vegas venue (LAS VEGAS SUN, 2/12).

White Sox Relish Chicago Artist Chance The Rapper's Grammy Wins

Chicago native Chance the Rapper last night "won three Grammy awards," including Best New Artist, and local sports teams "reacted favorably" to the news. The White Sox were "among the first to congratulate the 23-year-old recording artist, who designed three limited-edition caps for the team last year and also threw out the first pitch at their home opener" (ESPN.com, 2/13).

Meanwhile, Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo yesterday enjoyed a "glamorous trip to the Grammy Awards." MLB Network's Kevin Millar and Harold Reynolds were also in attendance "as part of MLB Network's Grammy Awards sweepstakes" (MLB.com, 2/12).

Several Chargers execs attended AEG's Grammys pre-party and telecast, including Chair Dean Spanos, President of Business Operations A.G. Spanos, President of Football Operations John Spanos, Exec VP, COO & CFO Jeanne Bonk and Special Advisor Jeffrey Pollack. Wayne County (Mich.) Exec Warren Evans today will hold a news conference to provide an update on a development proposal by Cavaliers Owner Dan Gilbert's Rock Ventures. The WALL STREET JOURNAL's Jason Gay profiled UFC President Dana White, who faced a "kind of existential crisis" following the promotion's $4B sale to WME-IMG. The deal was "a confirmation of White's success." But it also "felt like an end" and, at the time, White "compared the sale to a divorce."

The Raleigh NEWS & OBSERVER's Barry Jacobs wrote ADs are "moving their advocacy beyond academia to an overtly political realm" with the formation of a PAC. They will likely seek to influence policy on issues ranging from "pay for athletes to Title IX compliance, gambling to sexual assault, limiting liability for injuries to potential unionization by players."

Last night’s edition of Fox’ “Family Guy” featured a cutaway segment in which Peter Griffin is at the bar hanging out with his friends where they decide to start a podcast. Peter is excited and says, "Awesome! We haven't done anything as a group since we went birdwatching." The episode then cuts to Peter looking through binoculars at Larry Bird and saying in a whisper, "Guys, look. It's the yellow-headed puffin face. It's a solitary creature. Its feathered crown is designed to scare away mates. It's known to swell its face to assert dominance when threatened." Peter’s friend, Cleveland Brown, asks, “What does it eat, Peter?” Peter replies, “Gin and whatever’s in the bowl at the airport bar” (“Family Guy,” Fox, 2/12).
