Big Changes Expected At F1 After Liberty Stockholders Vote On Deal

Liberty Media today will "seek the approval of stockholders for its acquisition" of F1 in a deal that values the motorsports business at $8B, and what will "potentially follow is a shakeup of the sport to maximize revenue." The number of races could increase from the "present 21 a year to up to 25, with Miami and Las Vegas among the proposed new venues." One of the "first moves" new F1 Chair Chase Carey is likely to make after today’s vote is to appoint someone to head up "marketing, sponsorship and media-rights deals, with former ESPN exec Sean Bratches among the front-runners for the role" (VARIETY.com, 1/16).
