Warriors Reverse Course On Hiring Former Police Chief Amid Backlash

The Warriors "briefly retained" former S.F. Police Chief Greg Suhr as a security consultant, but ended the relationship yesterday "just hours after it was announced amid backlash on social media from activists." The "once-embattled top cop" was "supposed to help the team prepare for its groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday." Suhr, who was appointed chief in '11, "quit in May at the request of Mayor Ed Lee after several controversial police shootings." Suhr also "fielded criticism as chief when a scandal came to light involving a number of officers exchanging racist and homophobic text messages" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 1/13).

Execs from the Warriors, A's and Raiders have "presented a $750,000 check to aid victims and relief efforts from the deadly warehouse fire last month in Oakland" (AP, 1/12).
