Rams' McVay Is Youngest NFL Head Coach Ever; Chargers To Hire Lynn

The Rams today will introduce Redskins offensive coordinator Sean McVay as the "youngest head coach in league history." McVay will turn 31 on Jan. 24. The press conference will be held at the team's training facility at Cal Lutheran (L.A. TIMES, 1/13). This is an "audacious move that stole some of the spotlight from the uprooting of the Chargers and stunned many throughout the industry" (ESPN.com, 1/13). The decision is a "risky one for the Rams but a very inspired one" (SAN JOSE MERCURY-NEWS, 1/13). It is a "high-risk, and potentially high-reward, hire that will shape the future of the team" (ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER, 1/13).

Meanwhile, the Chargers reportedly will hire Bills interim head coach Anthony Lynn as their new coach in the hope that he "can breathe some fresh air into this franchise in a new city" (ESPN.com, 1/12). To say that Lynn "has his work cut out for him is a massive understatement." Not only does he "have to help oversee the Chargers’ messy move to L.A., he stands to inherit a team that has won a combined nine games the past two seasons while finishing a distant fourth place in the competitive AFC West" (SI.com, 1/13).
