Musburger Slammed For Joe Mixon Comments During Sugar Bowl

Play-by-play commentator Brent Musburger defended Oklahoma RB Joe Mixon during last night's Sugar Bowl telecast on ESPN and "doubled down later in the third quarter." Mixon was "suspended for a year after an incident in which he punched Oklahoma student Amelia Molitor" in '14. After video was released, Mixon "apologized again for the incident." Musburger initially addressed that "early in the telecast" of Oklahoma's win over Auburn (SPORTINGNEWS.com, 1/2).

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Ben Frederickson tweeted, "ESPN could have used the Joe Mixon story to address a huge problem in sports. Instead Brent Musburger wished him a lengthy NFL career. Yeesh." Louisville-based WDRB-Fox' Rick Bozich: "Plenty of empathy for Joe Mixon. ... Not a word about the woman Mixon slugged. Embarrassing, but not surprising." Oxford Eagle's Davis Potter: "Musburger just needs to stop talking about the Joe Mixon incident. Because he's failing miserably." AL.com's James Crepea: "What a train wreck." Fox Sports' Clay Travis: "Musburger just attempted to walk back his Joe Mixon comments and was just as bad the second time."
