Potato Bowl Draws 24,975 Despite Cold; Idaho QB Rips FCS Move

An announced crowd of 24,975 attended last night's Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, in which Idaho defeated Colorado State 61-50. The temperature at kickoff was 22 degrees, and the weather "clearly affected both teams." Players were "slipping and sliding much of the night on the cold blue turf at Boise State’s Albertsons Stadium." There were "small ice chunks visible all over the field before kickoff." Still, at least five other bowl games on record "have been played in colder weather" (Ft. Collins COLORADOAN, 12/23).

Meanwhile, Idaho in '18 will move from the FBS to the second-tier FCS, and Idaho QB Matt Linehan following last night's win said, "We belong in the FBS, period. ... We know we can compete. We know we belong here, no matter what everyone thinks, even our tone-deaf president. Maybe he doesn’t think we belong here, but I think we belong here." Linehan later "apologized repeatedly" to Idaho President Chuck Staben during the postgame presser (IDAHO STATESMAN, 12/23).
