Illinois-Missouri Men's Hoops Draws Record-Low Crowd In St. Louis

The annual Illinois-Missouri men's basketball game at Scottrade Center in St. Louis last night drew a crowd of 12,409 with "embarrassing pockets of unused seats" in the lower bowl and sections upon sections "empty in the upper deck." The game drew 14,456 fans last season, "but before that, every one of these games in this building surpassed 20,000 except one (and that was 19,586)." From '96-'06, every game in the series "had at least 22,000 fans." An "eye test says it was 65 percent Illinois fans" last night (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 12/22). Of the 8,000 tickets MU had available for sale, "only 2,850 were claimed" (KANSASCITY.com, 12/21).
