Marketers Activate Around Cubs' Victory With Newspaper Print Ads

Marketers are activating around the Cubs' World Series win with a variety of full-page print ads in national newspapers. MLB runs an ad in USA Today showing the players' postgame celebration and the Wrigley Field marquee adorned with the phrase, "Cubs Win!!" Also in USA Today, Chevrolet depicts series MVP Ben Zobrist on the field with the '17 Camaro: "Thanks For The Adrenaline Rush. Now We'd Like To Return The Favor." In the N.Y. Times, MasterCard runs an ad congratulating the team and its fans, featuring the Cubs' "W" mark (THE DAILY).

The Cubs continued to be a popular topic on late-night talks shows. TBS’ Conan O’Brien: “Tense game, very tense. The Cubs had a solid lead and then it became tied in the eighth inning when the FBI started investigating the Cubs' emails” (“Conan,” TBS, 11/3). NBC’s Jimmy Fallon: “Hillary did really send out a tweet congratulating the Cubs on winning, and then Trump sent out a tweet criticizing the Indians for putting his casinos out of business” (“The Tonight Show,” NBC, 11/3). CBS’ Stephen Colbert said Cubs President of Baseball Operations Theo Epstein "now owns the title of world’s most famous Theo. Sorry, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, you had a good run" (“The Late Show,” CBS, 11/3). ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel: "If there were any Cubs fans still alive from the last time they won, those people definitely died in the eighth inning" (“Jimmy Kimmel Live,” ABC, 11/3). Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” featured host Trevor Noah speaking with show staffer and Cubs fan Roy Wood Jr. (Comedy Central, 11/3).
