RNC Preparations Could Affect Cavaliers' Parade Plans

The Cavaliers will host an NBA championship parade on Wednesday, but it is "unclear if Quicken Loans Arena will be the site for any of Wednesday's events because of preparations that are ongoing in advance of next month's Republican National Convention." The team is scheduled to arrive back in Cleveland at 11:30am ET today. More than 20,000 fans last night "gathered inside and outside Quicken Loans Arena to watch the game on the Jumbotron" (ESPN.com, 6/20). The team and city "will release more details on the celebration once it's all worked out" (CLEVELAND.com, 6/20).

A "huge crowd of fans lined up outside Dick's Sporting Goods" at Cleveland's South Park Mall after Game 7 to be "among the first to purchase official championship gear." By 11:00pm, the "line outside Dick's swelled all the way to the back of the parking lot" (Cleveland PLAIN DEALER, 6/20).

Revelers in Cleveland last night "hopped atop a fire truck, a police car's hood and windshield was damaged and there were reports of broken glass at businesses near Quicken Loans Arena." But "two hours after the game, it would be hard to describe the mischief with that dreaded four-letter word: riot" (USATODAY.com, 6/20).

A "neon 'Champions' sign has been added" to the Cavaliers/LeBron James banner on the Sherwin Williams building in downtown Cleveland (CLEVELAND.com, 6/20).
