Shell To End Title Sponsorship Of PGA Tour Event After '17

Shell is "dropping its iconic and long-time sponsorship" of the PGA Tour’s event in Houston after the '17 tourney, the "latest sign of financial distress in the oil industry." Next year will be Shell's 26th year as title sponsor, the third-longest deal in pro golf. The PGA Tour and Houston Golf Association will "begin looking for a new title sponsor immediately." HGA President Steve Timms did not disclose how much Shell paid to title sponsor the event, but he said that he "would like the next sponsor to provide a similar level of financial backing" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 6/9).
