Kyle Busch Wins First Sprint Cup Title After Completing Comeback

Kyle Busch and Joe Gibbs Racing won the NASCAR Sprint Cup yesterday by winning the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The Cup title is the first for Busch, who "completed the ultimate comeback" nine months after a "serious crash at Daytona nearly ended his season." The championship is also the first for Toyota, which entered the Sprint Cup Series in '07 (AP, 11/22). The race was the last for Jeff Gordon, and the "drivers' meeting included a video tribute" to the retiring star. Other drivers "tweeted their appreciation," and Kevin Harvick "had his picture taken next to Gordon's car" (MIAMI HERALD, 11/23).

Meanwhile, there was "nearly an hour of criticism of NBC" yesterday from football fans for "sticking with racing over the network's usual NFL coverage on Sunday night." The start of the race was rain-delayed, and the event was "still on NBC" a few minutes before 8:00pm ET, when the net typically has switched to "Football Night In America" (USA TODAY, 11/23).
