Navy's Success Could Delay Final CFP Rankings From Committee

CFP Exec Dir Bill Hancock said that the Selection Committee "will delay the release" of the New Year's Six bowl matchups "if Navy is in the running" for one of those games. Navy-Army is scheduled for Dec. 12, "a week after all other FBS programs will be finished with the regular season." Navy is 7-1 and "most likely would be in the running for a Fiesta or Peach Bowl spot if it finished as the highest ranked team" in the Group of Five conferences. If Navy is in the running for a playoff spot, the "committee would delay releasing the four-team bracket." Hancock said that the final standings "would probably come out the Saturday night of Dec. 12" (CBSSPORTS.com, 11/8).

Hancock clarified that if Navy is still in contention for a New Year's Six bowl, the CFP would announce the semifinal pairings as planned on Dec. 6, while the other New Year's Six bowl teams would be announced on Dec. 12 following Navy-Army (THE DAILY).
