Association of National Olympic Committees Convenes In DC

More than 1,200 senior Olympics officials from around the world are in DC today for the Association of National Olympic Committees’ general assembly, the first time the body has met in the U.S. since '94. The group’s exec council today will meet behind closed doors, where members may approve a measure bringing the ANOC World Beach Games to San Diego in '17. The new event would include 15 non-Olympic sports, such as possibly surfing and 3-on-3 basketball. The USOC will host a welcome reception tonight at the National Building Museum, and the full body will convene tomorrow and Friday, when final action on the Beach Games would occur if the exec board signs off.
