Toronto Opts Not To Bid For '24 Games As IOC Deadline Approaches

Toronto "will not be hosting" the '24 Summer Games, as Mayor John Tory has decided "not to enter the city into the competitive bid process." Tory is "scheduled to make the announcement standing in front of city hall" this morning. The decision was made "after Tory received a lack of corporate enthusiasm and without firm support from the province." Key potential sponsors have also been "lukewarm to backing a Toronto bid." The "deadline to submit a formal letter" to the IOC is 6:00pm ET today (TORONTO STAR, 9/15).

A source said that Tory "will be creating a group to advise on possible future bids on big global events" including Expo 2025, the '26 and '28 Games (TORONTO SUN, 9/15).
