New Preview Center Showcases Red Wings Arena Project

Mike Ilitch's Olympia Entertainment and Olympia Development have opened a new preview center for the upcoming Red Wings arena in the northeast corner of Comerica Park. It features animated models of The District Detroit and the new arena. Its primary use for the next 24 months is to appeal to sponsors and suite and season-ticket holders (Red Wings). See more on how the Red Wings are "smashing the mold for their new arena as part of a massive mixed-use project" (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 6/29 issue).

The DETROIT FREE PRESS goes with the header "Pistons Should Share Downtown Arena With Wings." The city "no longer possesses a large enough business footprint to keep luxury suites regularly filled in four sports venues." The "real battle line" between Tom Gores' Palace Sports & Entertainment and the Ilitch family's Olympia Entertainment "isn't basketball vs. hockey." It is about "which venue will become the primary destination for the top-drawer concerts and other nonsports activities" (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 6/27).
