NHL Starts Big Offseason Meetings With GM Session In Las Vegas

The NHL begins its offseason schedule in earnest today with its annual GM meeting in Las Vegas at the Bellagio. Commissioner Gary Bettman will inform GMs of the salary cap for next season, a number that is expected to fall somewhere between $70-71M. This past season’s cap was $69M.

Tomorrow, the league’s BOG also will meet in Las Vegas to discuss a variety of topics, notably the potential opening of the expansion process. While there will be no announcement of any new franchises following the meeting, it is possible the governors vote to formally investigate potential expansion cities. Other topics that will be discussed include the ongoing legal battle in Glendale between the city and the Coyotes, a change in the overtime format, a coach’s challenge that would prompt video review and progress related to the re-launched '16 World Cup of Hockey.
