Security High For Boston Marathon, With No Threats Detected

Tens of thousands of runners and hundreds of thousands of fans are "expected to hit the streets of Boston" today for the 119th Boston Marathon. Security "will be high" along the course "in recognition of the bombing" in '13. The race is being held "during a pause in the trial of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev," convicted of the bombing earlier this month. The trial resumes tomorrow. Police "urged spectators not to bring large bags or coolers," and they "banned the use of drones" (REUTERS, 4/19). Boston Police Commissioner William Evans said there are "no threats" to the event. Evans: "We'll have a lot of officers out there ... a lot of bomb-detection equipment. People should be comfortable coming" (BOSTON HERALD, 4/20).

Forecasts call for a "cold, rainy Marathon Monday," with temperatures "capped in the mid-40s through the day." Showers are "expected in the morning, turning to heavy rain later on." Wind chill is predicted "in the high 30s or low 40s" (BOSTON GLOBE, 4/20).
