Record Attendance Numbers For Australian Open, Phoenix Open

A two-week record of 703,899 attended this year’s Australian Open, breaking the previous mark of 686,006 set in ’12. Two factors in helping set the record were a "new roof on Margaret Court Arena" and the "searing hot temperatures that can often affect play at the tournament" not being an issue this year (AP, 2/2).

Meanwhile, a Sunday crowd of 83,552 at the PGA Tour Waste Management Phoenix Open was “just enough to push the overall number past the tournament record,” for a final total of 564,368 (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 2/2).
