With Woods In Field, Phoenix Open To Shatter Attendance Mark

The Waste Management Phoenix Open tees off today, and last year's PGA Tour-record four-day crowd of 563,008 is expected to be "dwarfed this year" with Tiger Woods in the field. Tournament Dir Danny Calihan said, "We were already on pace for record numbers. But then we had a few days that were totally Tiger driven." More than 750 media credentials have been issued, up from the previous high of 550. An "auxiliary media center had to be built" (PGATOUR.com, 1/28).

Yesterday's pro-am drew the "largest Wednesday crowd in the tournament's history at 75,380, bettering the previous mark, set last year, by about 13,000" (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 1/28).
