Leak In Barclays Center Roof Causes 31-Minute Game Delay

Water began to drip onto the court at Barclays Center during the first quarter of last night's Heat-Nets game, and a "puddle formed." It took 31 minutes to "deploy a tarp up above and stop the leak, caused by faulty installation of what the Nets called 'a new green roof.'" Nets officials "simply stared long and hard at the roof and brought out two giant trash cans to catch the waterfall" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 12/17).

Meanwhile, the Nets prior to the game paid tribute to Jeffrey Vanchiro, the "colorful fan" who died this past weekend after he fell from an apartment window in Queens. Players "wore T-shirts during warm-ups with 'Gamblero' on the back, as well as the No. 44, the jersey number he favored." A moment of silence was held, and a video was shown with text that read, "In loving memory of Jeffrey Vanchiro. 1976-2014" (N.Y. TIMES, 12/17).
