DC Council Expected To Vote On Revised Soccer Stadium Deal

DC Council Chair Phil Mendelson said that he will ask the body to vote today on a "revised deal to build" a stadium for DC United. The new agreement "removes some of the previously negotiated tax abatements and would require" more than $60M in new city borrowing. To complete the proposed $300M deal by year’s end, the council "must take the first of two votes" today. Mendelson yesterday laid out "new details of the council’s plan to fund the District’s out-of-pocket stadium costs" (WASHINGTON POST, 12/2).

Meanwhile, the Las Vegas City Council yesterday "extended the deadline to vote on a soccer stadium subsidy deal" to Dec. 17. Council members voted 4-3 to "amend the deadline language." The city is working with Findlay Sports & Entertainment and The Cordish Cos. on a $200M, 24,000-seat soccer stadium proposal for downtown Symphony Park. The Dec. 1 deadline needed to be extended, or the proposed stadium deal "would have died" (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 12/2).
