Red Sox Set To Introduce Big-Name Signings Sandoval, Ramirez

The Red Sox today will formally introduce recent acquisition 3B Pablo Sandoval in a 1:00pm ET press conference that will be streamed live on MLB.com and redsox.com. A deal for SS Hanley Ramirez "could also be announced later today" (MLB.com, 11/25). Both players "were in Boston on Monday for physicals." Ramirez agreed to a four-year, $88M deal, while Sandoval received a "five-year contract in the range" of $100M (BOSTON GLOBE, 11/25).

The Red Sox Twitter account "briefly became the subject of controversy" last night. In reference to the Ramirez and Sandoval signings, the account posted, "So how was everyone's Monday?" But the tweet was published "approximately 15 minutes after a St. Louis grand jury did not bring criminal charges" against police officer Darren Wilson over the shooting death of Michael Brown. The Red Sox were criticized for a "perceived lack of sensitivity and the tweet was soon deleted" (BOSTON GLOBE, 11/25).
