MLB Honors Derek Jeter With Historic Achievement Award

Yankees SS Derek Jeter was honored yesterday by MLB Commissioner Bud Selig with the league's Historic Achievement Award, which recognizes accomplishments and contributions of historical significance to baseball. Jeter is the 15th honoree of the award since its creation in '98, but the second this month following the recognition of longtime Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully. MLB additionally presented Jeter with a check for $222,222.22 for his Turn 2 Foundation, matching an award given to the charitable group by the Yankees.

Meanwhile, secondary ticket prices for tomorrow's Orioles-Yankees game, Jeter's last scheduled home game, have reached an average of $845.41, up 29% from a week ago, according to aggregator TiqIQ. Tomorrow night's contest is the most expensive Yankees regular-season game, excluding Jeter's formal retirement ceremonies at the ballpark on Sept. 7, since the '10 season. Sunday's season finale at Fenway Park have reached an average listing price of $533.82, representing the most expensive Red Sox regular-season game on the resale markets in at least five years. Today's day game is averaging $121.20, up 53% since Monday night.
