In today’s Must Read, the WALL STREET JOURNAL’s Kevin Clark writes of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell’s “fateful powerful play” to control player discipline in an effort to "leave a legacy of cleaning up the sport” (WSJ.com, 9/18).

IndyCar announced it will hold a race in the Brazilian capital of Brasilia next year, “returning to the country after a one-year absence.” The March 8 race will take place at the Nelson Piquet permanent racetrack (AP, 9/18).

The Bengals announced that they have “crossed the 85 percent ticket sold threshold” in order to avoid a local TV blackout of Sunday’s game against the Titans (CINCINNATI.com, 9/18).

Three U.S. Senators yesterday sent letters to the presidents of 65 universities that comprise the five major conferences “seeking answers on how they treat college athletes.” The letter was written by U.S. Sens. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.), Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) and Cory Booker (D-N.J.) (CBSSPORTS.com, 9/18).

The Timbers will "field their own USL Pro team based in the Portland area" starting in '15. A source said that the USL Pro team is "not expected to play its home matches at Providence Park, but will train at the adidas Timbers Training Center" (OREGONLIVE.com, 9/18).

The NASL Ft. Lauderdale Strikers today will announce that they “have been sold from Traffic Sports to a group of three Brazilian investors who will take over at the end of this season” (MIAMI HERALD, 9/19).

Paolini Garment Co. will open today in K.C., and the custom tailor shop will "sell the AC78 clothing line, a collaboration" with Sporting KC D Aurelien Collin (KANSASCITY.com, 9/18).
