MLS Execs Visiting Sacramento As Potential Expansion City

MLS execs will be in Sacramento today to "discuss a potential expansion team," and the visit will include "high-level briefings" and a fan event. The execs will examine USL Pro club Republic FC's current home at Bonney Field and tour the site of the "most likely location" of an MLS stadium. Republic FC officials will brief MLS President & Deputy Commissioner Mark Abbott and his group on "financing plans for a stadium." The group will visit the Kings office near the site of the new NBA arena, and Abbott is "expected to attend a playoff block party" hosted by the USL Pro club (SACRAMENTO BEE, 9/17).

Republic FC has signed a letter of intent to "build a future soccer stadium at the railyard, and future railyard developer Larry Kelley has joined the ownership group" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 9/17).
