Klinsmann's Decision On Donovan Draws Strong Public Reaction

U.S. men's soccer national team coach Jurgen Klinsmann today is expected to answer questions regarding his roster decisions for the FIFA World Cup, especially the team playing "without perhaps its most iconic player" in F Landon Donovan (BALTIMORESUN.com, 5/22). Donovan "has been the face of American soccer for a decade" and "has provided some of the greatest moments in U.S. soccer history," making Klinsmann's decision "jarring" (WASHINGTON POST, 5/23).

L.A. TIMES P1 Sports header: “What’s Behind Landon Donovan Being Left Off U.S. World Cup Roster.” ESPN and BT Sport's Ian Darke tweeted, "Shocked by Landon Donovan being left out by USA. Big and bold call by Jurgen Klinsmann who knows he will face music if decision backfires." The N.Y. Daily News' Frank Isola: "If only Landon Donovan had a German mother he would have been a lock to make Jurgen Klinsmann's World Cup roster." ESPN's Marc Stein: "Klinsmann sure just got at-large America's attention with the bombshell decision."
