Laugh Track....Arms Race

Actor Aasif Mandvi appeared on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" to promote his new film, "Million Dollar Arm." Host Jimmy Kimmel said the film is a "great story." Mandvi said, "It's a true story and that's what I think is so amazing." Mandvi said the two Indian players are now in the Pirates organization and noted while filming, "I met the two real guys. When they first came from India they were both like 110 pounds, they were these little skinny Indian kids. Then I met them now when we were shooting the film and they're these just huge guys." Kimmel said, "Pizza and steroids, that'll do it for you" ("Jimmy Kimmel Live," ABC, 5/15).

ABC's Jimmy Kimmel said, "Part two of Anderson Cooper's interview with Clippers Owner Donald Sterling aired last night. It was just as nutty as part one. He still goes back and forth about V. Stiviano. One minute he loves her, the minute next he doesn't. She did the same thing when she spoke about him. It's a classic love story, romance between a wealthy team owner and an opportunistic young woman. Not since the movie 'Jerry Maguire' has a sports-related relationship tugged at my heartstrings like this" ("Jimmy Kimmel Live," ABC, 5/15).

NBC's Jimmy Fallon said, "Of course, the big story is this Donald Sterling mess. Last night was part two of the Anderson Cooper interview with Sterling and during the interview Sterling said that people think of him as an ogre or Frankenstein, which isn't true because Frankenstein and ogres are still allowed at NBA basketball games. ... Fallon: "Brazil says it will hand out 200 Robocop-style suits to police officers who will be on duty during the World Cup, or as the 201st cop in line put it, 'Crap'" ("The Tonight Show," NBC, 5/15).

CBS' David Letterman's monologue featured "a special announcement from Donald Sterling" on his apology for making racist comments ("Late Show," CBS, 5/15).

Comedy Central's Stephen Colbert noted Russian President Vladimir Putin's "streak of manchievement continued" this past weekend when he scored six goals in an exhibition hockey game in Russia. Colbert said, "The other team would have tried to stop Putin but his games often end in sudden death. Just take a look at Putin in a show many are calling 'Dictator On Ice.' He's such a speed demon that professional goalies trip over their own skates as soon as he approaches" ("The Colbert Report," Comedy Central, 5/15).
