Detroit City Council Considering New Joe Louis Arena Lease Deal

The Detroit City Council today is holding a special session to consider a lease proposal that would allow the Red Wings to play at Joe Louis Arena until their "new home is built north of downtown." The Council also will consider a "handful of related agreements" with Olympia Entertainment, including a $5.2M payment from the company to "settle any claims the city has to a share of the Red Wings' past cable TV revenues." The city projects its parking system could collect an average of $510,000 a year "for the first four years of the lease" (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 3/31).
