Braves Select Populous To Design New Ballpark In Cobb County

The Braves have selected the most experienced architect in baseball to design their new ballpark in Cobb County, Ga. Populous, a designer of 19 MLB facilities and renovations to Kauffman Stadium and Wrigley Field, won the job over HKS, the Braves’ project consultant and designer of Coolray Field, the team’s Triple-A facility in Gwinnett County. Populous’ selection is not official until a contract is signed, according to industry sources.

The Braves are developing a 41,500-seat stadium about 12 miles north of Turner Field. The total project cost is $672M covering hard construction, land acquisition and infrastructure upgrades. The new venue, the centerpiece of a mixed-use development, is targeted to open for the '17 season.
