A USA TODAY front-page piece examines safety at sports venues across the country and an investigation shows that they “routinely rely on low-paid, part-time security guards with spotty training and even criminal convictions” (USA TODAY, 5/3).

MLS is "bringing its business summit to Columbus for a second straight year." The event will take place Sept. 10-12 and will "coincide with the United States-Mexico World Cup qualifier" at Columbus Crew Stadium (COLUMBUS DISPATCH, 5/3).

The Pac-12 has hired Ice Miller LLP to "review the officiating situation during the Pac-12 Tournament in March." Former Pac-12 official coordinator Ed Rush "improperly tried to motivate officials into more closely monitoring" Univ. of Arizona basketball coach Sean Miller (AZSTARNET.com, 5/2).

About 300 tickets to the May 13 "unveiling of the design for the new Vikings stadium" will be available to the general public. The free tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, likely at the Metrodome box office (TWINCITIES.com, 5/2).

WWE profits “tumbled in the first quarter,” but the company said that “the downturn is only temporary as it ramps up plans for a pay cable network.” The WWE yesterday reported net income of $3M, or $0.04 per share, compared with $15.3M, or $0.20 per share, in Q1 ‘12 (STAMFORD ADVOCATE, 5/3).
