Alabama Trustees To Discuss Bill Battle Becoming School's Next AD

The Univ. of Alabama Board of Trustees' Exec Committee this morning has a conference call to vote on the selection of CLC Founder Bill Battle as the successor to outgoing AD Mal Moore. The school has recommended Battle and his hiring is "anticipated to be unanimously passed" (AL.com, 3/22). Battle, who played football at Alabama and spent seven years as Tennessee football coach in the '70s, said he "couldn't find a way to say no" to the offer  after speaking with school officials (AP, 3/21).  The BIRMINGHAM NEWS' Kevin Scarbinksy writes Battle "fits the mold of every Alabama AD," while ESPN.com's Chris Low writes under the headline "Bill Battle Offers Best Of All Worlds For Tide." Meanwhile, SBJ’s tribute to Battle as a member of the '12 Champions class was one of the most-read stories on our site yesterday.
