Chargers' Spanos Denies Report Of Decisions Made On Smith, Turner

Chargers President & CEO Dean Spanos is denying a report that he "essentially decided at least a month ago" not to bring back GM A.J. Smith and coach Norv Turner for next season. Spanos in a statement said, "There is only one person in this organization who will make those decisions, and that's me, and I haven't shared my thoughts with anyone. I will make evaluations at the end of the season." The SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE maintains that the "monumental break" is coming, and that Dir of Player Personnel Jimmy Raye is the "apparent replacement for Smith" (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 12/7).
