About 88,000 fans attended Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Good Sam Roadside Assistance 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, “the lowest since NASCAR began recording attendance figures” at the track (FOXSPORTS.com, 10/7).

The Jets are denying an NFL Network report “about 12,000 tickets being unsold” for tonight’s “MNF” game against the Texans (NORTHJERSEY.com, 10/7). 

The Nets yesterday practiced at Barclays Center for the first time, “testing the rims, sizing up the sight lines and the backdrops, and beginning the gradual process of acclimating to new surroundings.” The initial player and coach reviews “were positive” (N.Y. TIMES, 10/8).

Nearly 1,000 participants, including Lance Armstrong, took part in Sunday’s Rev3 Half Full Triathlon near Baltimore. The event’s organizers chose to drop its USA Triathlon sanction “in order to include Armstrong in the field” (WASHINGTON POST, 10/8).

MSG Sports is running a full-page ad in today’s N.Y. Times featuring a collage of Serena Williams, Juan Martin Del Potro, Victoria Azarenka and Rafael Nadal that promotes the start of ticket sales for the March 4 BNP Paribas Showdown at MSG (THE DAILY).
